I am posting this a bit later than I wanted, but as usual, my real job and other issues got in the way.  I am now away from the "Cubicle From Hell" until after the 1st of the year, so now I can work on more important things.

Rolled into Asheville on Thursday nite for the Christmas Jam and laid down a plan for the weekend for the music I wanted to hear.  Two clubs had music going on during the day,  Jack in the Wood and Stella Blue, as well as the Pre-Jam at the Orange Peel on Friday night for us lucky few that got VIP tickets.

Friday morning I arrived at the Civic Center to pick up my wristband and ran in Tom and his son Tommy, the Muleheads from the state of Maine who I met at the Mountain Jam back in June. Tom is the proprietor of the Bar Harbor Blues Authority Bar as well as several other businesses and was a encyclopedia of knowledge on the background of most of the musicians in Asheville for the weekend.

Started off at the Jack of the Wood at around 1 and spent a few hours listening to some tunes while Tom and I got caught up as well as trying to get info out of Tommy on the latest lady friend in his life…. It might as well been a state secret…… On Saturday, the boys snagged a table right in front of the stage, so that is the vantage point of most of the photos.

Below are a few of the artists that I saw during the day on Friday and Saturday.  The Pre-Jam on Friday night did not allow any cameras and I was seated too far away at the Xmas Jam to get any decent photos.  Dino Perucci was the official photographer at the event and has a great selection of pics on the website for the Xmas Jam and the Pre-Jam.  It was a great time and highly recommend for any music enthusiast.   Enjoy…..

Due to sickness, holidays, laptop meltdown and work at the real job ( well, the one that pays me a salary), I am back on the road again to Xmas Jam.

Flying the friendly skies to Charlotte, then driving to Asheville for a well deserved break from life in the "Cubicle from Hell", I will spend the next few days enjoying the ambiance of sweet sounds on the outskirts of the Smoky Mountains.  Yes, my life really sucks….

Keith Spera of my hometown New Orleans Times Picayune followed Fats Domino to New York City and wrote a multi-part story of the experience that is humorous and enlightening.

Fats was supposed to be on the David Letterman Show last night, but the writer’s strike cancelled those plans.  He then played at the Pink Elephant for a show promoting the Tipitina’s Foundation and the new album Goin’ Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino.

Keith’s series of articles: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

  • UpdatePart 5 of the story and Fat’s playing "Blueberry Hill" on the NBC Today Show with Leo Nocentelli, Ivan Neville, Donald Harrison, Jr., Adam Deitch, Toots Hibbert, Eric Krasno and Nick Daniels… Now that is an All-Star band…..
  • Update IIPart 6 as Fats heads home to New Orleans
Also there was Dino Perrucci snapping some pics.

And SolitaryShowGoer had some nice photos also.

I should have burned some of those AAdvantage miles and headed up north…….

I ran across this video while doing a little YouTube surfing.  Obviously shot quite a few years ago, it features Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles along with Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones and Paul Schaffer of the Letterman Show.  Very Good….
