I downloaded the album today and after listening to just a few tracks I can attest this is not a fluff commemorative album. You can go to Amazon to listen to previews of all 30 songs and I am sure you will agree this is a must have for your collection.

As told in a story in USA Today, a portion of the proceeds will go to several charitable functions in New Orleans such as buying instruments for the public schools and a community center in the 9th Ward among others.

There is also a Release Party at Tipitina’s on Sept 29th that will be webcast. So if you can’t go, check it out online this Saturday night.

You can order the album online at Amazon.com or on iTunes if you are among the MP3 crowd at the links below.

Now for the challenge. I will be donating $5.00 for every album sold through these links to the Tipitina’s Foundation up to a total of $500 as well as anything made from MusicRoadMan being an affiliate of Amazon and iTunes. Just email me your receipt and I will put your name and website if you have one in a future post.

Why you might ask???  I spent the first 24 years of my life not far from New Orleans, enjoying the fantastic food and music and I still go back to see family, hang out at JazzFest and is a good getaway from the "Cubicle From Hell" on weekends. I want to give a bit back to the city and the musicians who made my years growing up and in more recent times enjoyable by the sounds they provided.

Music is the backbone of New Orleans and I still remember young kids on a corner in the French Quarter playing with well-worn instruments that were way past their expiration date. But the melodies that came out and the enthusiasm showing on their faces were worth way more than the 5 or 10 bucks I left in the tattered case.

So to help the current generation of young artists in the Big Easy and maybe the next Fats Domino, buy the album and money will go out of my pocket to the Tipitina’s Foundation. If you don’t want to buy the album and/or would rather give money directly to the Tipitina’s Foundation, go here and I thank you for your donation.

Also, if you have any instruments around the house that you are tired of stepping around, have covered up with clothes or your wife or significant other has banished to the attic, go here and let them get put to good use.
