Tipitina’s Foundation, Fats Domino, Charity and the Music and Construction in New Orleans
Dino Perrucci of Jambase.com did an excellent article with some quality photos of his recent trip to New Orleans. Along with pics of the musical scene from Tipitina’s workshops and the marching bands dueling in front of Tip’s, there are also some of the reconstruction in the 9th Ward.
One of the photos is the brand new home of Fats Domino in the 9th Ward and some of the money for the rebuilding came from the Tipitina’s Foundation. This is a great organization that has helped a lot of current musicians as well as the youngsters who are just getting started, especially since Katrina did damage to the Big Easy. I could go on and on, but there was a Entertainment Weekly article and a CBS Sunday Morning video and article recently that can do it more justice than I can.
That being said, it is a good charity to donate money and/or musical instruments to or buy some of their merchandise as the money goes back into Tipitina’s Foundation. Come on, you know you have a guitar collecting dust or a set of drums that your significant other has been nagging you to get rid of….
