Wakarusa Festival Review & Photos - Day 1 - 06/07/07

Day 1 was spent just getting my bearings around the festival grounds, figuring out where all the stages are located, catch a few bands and just relax and chat with all the rest of the campers.

First band I saw was Papa Mali, performed basically the same set list as Mountain Jam last week but a shorter version. Most of the people I ran into have never heard of him but were impressed with his guitar playing.

Next up were Dubconscious, a reggae band out of Athens, GA .

The New Mastersounds followed up, a Galactic-ish band out of the United Kingdom that were tight playing together. Papa Mali joined these guys toward the end of the set, seems that Papa kind of took these guys under his wing during the High Sierra Fesival some time back.

Finishing the night on the Revival stage were the North Mississippi Allstars and the crowd was packed by the time they hit the stage. Performed for two hours and were kind of improv the whole set as they looked back and forth at each other for song choices. You can tell these guys enjoy playing together by their stage presence and the crowd was more that appreciative and Chris Chew just tore the bass up and Cody came out from behind the drums to play guitar later in the set. Luther was just …. Luther as he burned the strings up on his guitar and left the crowd wanting a bit more at the end.
